After yet another day of trying to convince my 16 year old daughter that “no” sometimes means “I love you,” and that I am not, actually, an asshat (and failing miserably on both counts), I really needed to hear this. Thank you.

Thanks to both of you. It took me a long time to write this post, but the time was right. And his number is always staying in my phone.
Erica-asshats is right. and for the record, my dad will be laughing at me when Buttercup gets hormonal. She’s gonna drive me up a wall.

That was a beautiful post. I think it’s nice that you have his phone number in there. Losing a parent changes you, whether you want it to or not; for the better we hope.

We are such sh*ts when we’re teenagers aren’t we? LOL

I love it asshats.

It will get easier- I’ve had 16 years, and although I won’t ever forget my dad- I can remember the good things and cherish those moments

Amen sister! I know my kids’re gonna hate me too.
My mom’s voice is still on her work’s answering machine. Sometimes I call late at night to hear her voice.
